After a lot of problems with our site this year we are now up and running again. we are now trying to get more of the updating done, if you don't see what you want please ask (03rd March 2006)

It has come to our attention that some people are wondering if Earth and Sky has gone out of business.

Let me assure you that this is NOT the case.

We are sorry if some people have not been able to contact us

There are a number of possible reasons for this.

1. Some mail severs will get rid of emails that look like spam, I have had that happen to me. - make your Subject clear a 'hi' for example in the subject box may get filtered out

2. We have not been able to get to the phone, this is more likely these days as Fieldview gets busier and busier, We don't keep office hours so please try again at any reasonable hour, We try to divert the phone to our mobiles when we are not around, but out here mobile reception is poor, and we will look into making sure the telephone is louder so we don't miss it!!!!!

To ensure Earth and Sky Books survive we have to move with the times, This does mean we will be attending far fewer conventions. Sadly this is partly because the price of fuel has become prohibitive and also that people tend to use us as a database for titles and then look for the cheapest option to buy them, we cannot compete with the likes of Amazon but neither will you get the advice from Amazon, see them at conventions, or get the unusual titles. At the end of the day we have to be able to make a living, we give a great deal of our time free of charge as the profit margin on books is not great. The books business has changed a great deal over the last few years and we do the best we can with limited resources to ensure Earth and Sky continues to provide specialist astronomy books. We hope you understand.

We accept for payment All major credit cards, Switch and Solo in the UK,

BUT PLEASE before you email us your card details remember this is not the most secure method to give over those numbers, contact us first.

WE DO NOT supply your details to anyone else so you get hassled with useless junk mail.

We don't use a shopping a cart to take orders because:

1. Often our customers would like some information on a title, these days many on-line stores don't allow you to contact a person easily, we do!, We know many of our customers, and we believe people would rather talk to a person than an automated email response.

2. Being a specialist supplier and not just an on-line book store, it is common that we have obscure books on order for people, some titles can take some weeks to obtain or in the end prove to be impossible to get. We have a policy that we do not process your card details or cash a cheque until your book is being packed, we don't think it's fair to take your money until the books on the way. Also if we have a card receipt we know the books gone out!

3. Shopping carts and card payment schemes on the INTERNET costs us money, ultimately that means the cost of the books has to rise to cover that cost, we think you would prefer us to keep the book costs as low as possible.

If you would like us to attend your astronomy convention or star party please ask us.

We try to attend as many conventions as we can, but you need ask early, we are already booking for next year.

We are happy to travel ( we attended the Whirlpool Star Party this year a round trip of 800miles for us)

WE DO NOT

1. Make a charge for so called rare books

2. Charge post and packing on each item when we don't have all the items in stock, we make one charge!!

3. Charge £ for $ on US books that we import.

Make mistakes, that's human nature but we ARE

On the end of a phone line, or email if you have a problem!

We are constantly are amazed by people who phone us as a 'last resort' they have chased titles in the high street and from cheap Internet sellers without success only to find we have the title on our shelves and often at a fraction of the cost.

So folks, try us first! not last. At least you can phone us and talk to us for honest advice from the people who know what they are talking about and not a a faceless company that only wants your money.

Although a large proportion of our customers buy our books by mail order we also have a book shop at Fieldview and we attend as many Astronomy Conventions in the UK as we are able.

We are astronomers ourselves and are always looking for new titles of interest to us and our customers.

If you cannot find the title you are looking for in our lists, please email us, we may well have it in stock, if not we will try to obtain it for you, and we may also stock it for other astronomers.

We feel that we not only here to sell books, but also a resource for the astronomy community and that your feedback and suggestions are vital.
